/deːɐ̯ bəˈleːk/
A document confirming that a payment, purchase, or other transaction took place.
| Case | Singular | Plural |
|---|---|---|
| Nominativ | der Beleg | die Belege |
| Akkusativ | den Beleg | die Belege |
| Dativ | dem Beleg | den Belegen |
| Genitiv | des Belegs | der Belege |
A Quittung usually confirms a payment; a Beleg can also document a purchase or another transaction.
Rechnung and Beleg are documents of a transaction, but serve different functions: the Rechnung requests payment, while the Beleg confirms an event.
A Beleg supports a statement but does not have to prove it as unequivocally or completely as a Beweis.
A Nachweis generally proves a fact or entitlement; a Beleg specifically documents a payment, purchase, or transaction here.
Formation typeConversion
„Beleg“ is synchronically formed through conversion into the verb „belegen“ and denotes a documenting result.
